Ex Police staffer and transexual makeup supremo Ann Drogyne, dropped a complaint against Sharon Gale but made a new complaint of malicious communication against East 17 star Brian Harvey.
Sussex Police face fresh allegations of corruption today, after a telephone conversation between a suspect in a firearms and harassment case, is heard being solicited by a Sussex Police officer, into making a malicious and frivolous allegation of handling stolen goods, against thorn in the side of Sussex Police since 2012, Matt Taylor..
Confused transgender champion Paris Barrington from Peterborough, released a telephone conversation between him/herself and Sussex Police DC Andy Mountford-Laker and Northamptonshire PC Michael Clarke; during which damning evidence is presented, which shows Sussex Police going to all and any lengths, to bring a malicious prosecution against ex Royal Military Policeman Matt Taylor.
In one extract, we hear Paris talking to PC Michael Clarke;
“No, you called me and you told me you had my phone, listen this is what start all this off, you phoned me, not you personally, it was err, err, err DC Manford, he phoned me and he wanted to prosecute Matt Taylor, so I went along with it if I don’t get any agro, but you seem to be annoying me for some reason.”
From the extract above its clear that it was Sussex Police DC Andy Mountford-Laker, who contacted Paris Barrington, because he wanted to “prosecute Matt Taylor”, to which Paris Barrington agreed to go “along with”, if he didn’t get any “agro.”
Labelled a “Conspiracy Theorists,” by the Brighton and Hove News, and accused of regularly posting wild accusations about Sussex Police and other public figures on his blog and YouTube channel; Matt Taylor, 48 from Brighton, accuses Sussex Police of waging a course of conduct against him (and others including John Paterson and John Hoath), which amounts to serious harassment, stalking and intimidation.
Taylor contends that three events since September 2019, prove beyond doubt, that he’s been a victim of Sussex Police corruption, and even goes so far to make his wildest allegation to date, that a Reptilian Alien Satanic Sex Sect, is operating within the ranks of Sussex Police.
Arrested for Stalking a [Particular Individual]!
Taylor accuses Sussex Police of a premeditated and strategically planned arrest, to inflict maximum disruption, hurt, alarm and fear, upon his person, with the decision to arrest him on 22 March 2020, (on the eve of the Coronavirus lock-down) for a frivolous and malicious complaint of harassment, with the fear of violence, for posting a 30 second video clip on Youtube, 6 months previously..
Proof Sussex Police are out to Get Me, no matter what and how its done!
Proof is telephone conversations between Paris Barrington and Sussex Police DC Andy Mountford-Laker and Northamptonshire PC Michael Clarke; during which its provable that Sussex Police actively solicit Paris Barrington into making a frivolous and malicious criminal complaint against me, with the intention of arresting me, getting me in for an interview and then to be charged with handling stolen goods.
Sussex Police are Banged to Rights.
Probably the most damning evidence of corruption within Sussex Police, this damaging conversation between Paris Barrington and DC Andy Mountford-Laker, demonstrates the solicitation of Paris by Sussex Police to make a malicious allegation against Matt Taylor.
DC Mountford-Laker: My question to you Paris is, would you like to give a statement in relation to the theft of your phones and that fact that, arh, obviously, umm, Matthew Taylor had them because obviously I’d be looking to prosecute him for handling stolen goods, cos per-say, CM took them, stole them and then obviously Matthew Taylor ws aware, I appreciate you said he’ll give them back to you when he gets his phones back from the police, well it’s still handling stolen property. OK Paris, it’s up to you. From my point of view.
Paris Barrington: I know that Matt Taylor is a little bit of a naughty boy, but I don’t want to go down this avenue if it’s going to waste my time. I want to really annoy Matt Taylor because he told, he put out there live, that I’ve raped people and I’m not very impressed with that at all. All I’ve done was slagged him off because he had my phone.
DC Mountford-Laker: OK, I’m I’m, sorry I’m trying not to. My job as a police officer is to investigate crime.
Paris Barrington: Right.
DC Mountford-Laker: I am aware that a crime has taken place.
Paris Barrington: Yep.
DC Mountford-Laker: Because your phone has been stolen and then he’s obviously admitted to you online that he’s got your phones.
Paris Barrington: Yeah.
DC Mountford-Laker: Obviously you said they were stolen because I’ve seen your posts online, I’ve got a copy of it, I’ve uploaded it.
Paris Barrington: Right OK.
DC Mountford-Laker: Um, so, it wouldn’t be wasting your time because they’re stolen property.
Paris Barrington: Right.
DC Mountford-Laker: So I’ll have him in, interview him, arh about it, and he’ll be charged with a theft offence.
Paris Barrington: Yeah that’s a good idea.
Is Matt Taylor a paedophile?
In a shocking display of unprofessionalism, the above extract of a telephone conversation between Paris Barrington and DC Andy Mountford-Laker, (which was alleged to have taken place between 25-27 March 2020), reveals Paris asking a malicious question about Matt Taylor, which a serving police detective should have known better to answer, let alone describe it as “an interesting question.”
Paris Barrington: Yeah that’s a good idea. Can I ask you a question? I don’t know whether you, you, you are allowed to answer this or not but you are allowed to cough instead of saying yeah. Is he a paedophile?
Silence…
Paris Barrington: OK.
DC Mountford-Laker: It’s an interesting question and all I can say is that I am investigating unrelating matters to that, but it requires I examine his computers and phones and I don’t know what I’m going to find on them.
Paris Barrington: Oh right OK.
DC Mountford-Laker: I’m not investigating him for a sexual nature, but I don’t know, but also if he gets charged with something, it’ll be in the public arena.
Paris Barrington: Yeah OK I just wanted to ask that, I’m going to take that as ‘no’, at the moment but I can read between the lines.
Keep in mind that Matt Taylor had previously reported Paris Barrington to Sussex Police on two previous occasions, accusing him of harassment, doxing and doxing of his children’s address.
Email Correspondence with Sussex Police Detective Inspector Christopher Thompson Ref: Paris Barrington Harassment – 13 February 2020.
Centred around the alleged theft of two Apple i-phones, DC Andy Mountford-Laker breaks all principles of Law and Order, by stating a theft crime had been committed, without any investigation to determine whether a crime has been committed.
Desperate to prosecute Matt Taylor for anything and everything they can; Sussex Police DC Andy Mountford-Laker, rejected Clarice Gutmann’s claim that she had swapped her laptop for Paris’s iphones, and which she went onto give to Taylor.
In a statement, Clarice Gutmann gives her side of the story:
“I Clarice Gutmann while living in the U.K. was forced to move from my home I was living in in Durham UK because my Children’s father abandoned me. I am a part of a Group of people who are learning about Law and our rights called Global Jury. I let the group know that I need a place to stay temporarily until I could find a more permanent solution. I have prior been a Sunday school teacher for some 22 yrs. I Have had Federal and International Crimes and Violations committed against me and my 3 American by U.K. corporations and it’s Agencies and am Fighting back for Justice! Paris at time was a part of our Group and was pretending to be someone He is not. He had done some things that made us question his motives but He pretended he was a good person just wanting to help and wanted to prove himself to the team. A week after I went to stay I told Paris I needed a new phone. I traded a laptop I had because it was too big and bulky for me to carry around and I had no WiFi anyway so I traded it for his help and for two cheap little 30.00 pound I phones which he promised he was going to help me get factory reset but did not. I gave Matt the phones because I had no use for them as I was able to get a cheap phone off a Indian peddler from Sunderland afterwards before I went to Matts but I still had them and gave them to him for helping me when I had no one. Matt Taylor is an Amazing guy. He’s kind and smart and he was an Absolute Gentleman the whole 2 months I was there. He treated me like a Sister and I felt like family and safe in his home. I consider Matt a great and honest man and Friend. I wound up leaving Paris place because he was becoming very rude and violent because I suggested he use the men’s public shower room while his bathroom was getting fixed. Paris is not a good person; he is a gender confused person who has a strong background of Ritual Abuse. He has many physiological traits that are downright scary and he needs extreme medical treatment for. Many of Paris friends are apart of the Satanic Ritual Group who I have been working with certain individuals to expose. I am also aware that many of these such individuals who work with in our society even to the highest echelon and even more scary some of these such corrupt people work in your Police forces and more creating a conflict of interest for their Innocent victims such is Matt. I am writing this as a true testament of what I know to the best of my knowledge and I wish to stand in Correctness with no malice at all times. All rights reserved UCC-103 without Prejudice as does Matt. Matt has many witnesses to the many crimes committed against him and we are also Seeking Justice for Matt Taylor from the Corruption happening within your establishment. Like it or not taking one’s positions without a full proper right to jury is Robbery. Your thieves in power need to return all that belongs to Matt Taylor. You do not have a right to Rob him of his intellectual property because you do not like what he Rights or because someone gave him a faulty device. You do not get to treat him like a criminal without due process. If you want us to abide by the law we’ll you very well better also be abiding by those same very laws. I also suggest you all lear what is the true law which applies to man verses laws which need only apply to Corporations, Good day!
Sincerely CM Gutmann.”
Paris Admitting to Firearm Offences
In these two clips of a conversation with both PC Michael Clarke and DC Mountford-Laker, Paris confesses to be under investigation for firearm offences.
DC Andy Mountford-Laker joins Sussex Police Hall of Shame.
Set to join the ranks of the Sussex Police Hall of Shame, DC Andy Mountford-Laker demonstrates his complete lack of professionalism when he refers to a victim of crime, single mother of three, Kaley Einav as “stinky knickers.”
As one concerned citizen complained to the IOPC in relation to DC Mountford-Laker’s conduct:
“I am particularly offended by the conduct of DC Andy Mountford-Laker, when he referred to Kaley Einav as “stinky knickers.”
Paris Barrington is currently under investigation for firearm and harassment offences, against Kaley Einav, in which he has maliciously called her “stinky knickers,” which has brought her considerable alarm, distress and fear.
It is loathsome and disgusting that a serving Sussex Police Officer should use the same language, as the suspect alleged to have harassed her, in conversation, and illustrates to me, that DC Andy Mountford-Laker is not fit to be a police officer.
As you can hear at the 25 minute 8 second mark, DC Mountford-Laker actually applauds and congratulates Paris Barrington, concerning a tirade of abuse, which resulted in Kaley Einav (a single mother of three) reporting Paris Barrington for harassment.
DC Mountford-Laker: “Paris I have to say, I did nothing but laugh. It was an excellent arh arh.”
Paris Barrington: “Analogy.”
DC Mountford-Laker: “You mention a young lady I don’t know her full name, I think you referred to her as ‘stinky knickers.’
Paris Barrington: “Oh Kaley.”
DC Mountford-Laker: She may have taken a couple of phones that belonged to you. And then you mentioned a male party, who you suspected had your phone.”
Paris Barrington: “Yeah Matt Taylor.”
DC Mountford-Laker: “Arh there you are, as you like to call him, ‘Fat Matt’, which there again, I do quite like, sorry, sorry, I can’t help it.”

As relevant today, as it was relevant 20 years ago. Nothing has changed…
Fifty police officers across the UK have been arrested as part of a crackdown on suspected paedophiles who pay to access child pornography websites, detectives revealed today.
The officers were among 1,300 people arrested on suspicion of accessing or downloading indecent images of children – some as young as five – from US-based Internet sites.
Thirty-five men were arrested in London this morning as part of the investigation – codenamed Operation Ore – following raids on 45 addresses across the capital.
Of the 50 policemen identified, eight have been charged to date and the remainder bailed pending further inquiries. Scotland Yard said none of those arrested today was a policeman.
At a press conference at Scotland Yard today, Jim Gamble, assistant chief constable of the National Crime Squad, said he was not surprised at the number of police officers among the suspects.
“As police officers, we should expect to be held accountable,” he said.
“Fifty police officers have been identified and we are not hiding that fact. We want you to know about that to reassure you.
“Police officers are member of the communities that they serve and there will be good people and bad people in the police.”
Mr Gamble said the 50 officers were among 1,200 Britons who had been identified as “category one or two” suspects – those who posed the greatest potential risk to children.
In addition, 40 children nationwide – 28 of them in London – had been identified as being at risk of being abused and appropriate steps had been taken with other agencies to ensure that all the youngsters were safe.
Before today’s arrests, the Metropolitan Police had executed 75 warrants across the capital with 65 arrests and more than 130 computers seized.
Although 7,000 suspected users of “pay-per-view” child pornography sites based in the US were identified in Britain, Mr Gamble said the actual number of offenders would probably be lower, partly due to duplicates.
The Met’s Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Carole Howlett, said today’s raids represented the single largest operation of its kind mounted so far by the force.
She added: “Our priority so far has been to identify those individuals on the list that pose the greatest threat to children now.
“But this process is on-going … and it will continue after today, even though it is extremely resource intensive.”
Ms Howlett also announced that the Home Office had agreed to allocate an extra £500,000 to support further action as part of Operation Ore.
She said the money would be used to provide extra training in computer forensics for officers across the country and to buy more equipment for analysing computers seized.
Commenting on today’s operation, children’s charity NSPCC said it had been assisting the Met by responding to any emerging child protection matters.
Colin Turner, head of NSPCC’s specialist investigation service, said: “The arrests send out a strong warning to those that think they can remain anonymous and escape the law by using the Internet to trade in child abuse images.
“Behind these indecent, abusive images are real children who will have suffered immense damage and trauma.”
Operation Ore is the UK wing of a huge FBI operation which traced 250,000 paedophiles worldwide last year through credit card details used to pay for downloading child porn.
The names of British suspects were passed on by US investigators.
Suspects were traced through the Landslide web site – a gateway to an international collection of child pornography sites.
Thomas Reedy, who ran the web site and earned millions from it, is now serving several life sentences in the US.
IN SUSSEX POLICE FORCE ALONE….
PC Alexander Walsh
A police officer awaiting sentencing for common assault and stalking a woman has been dismissed from Sussex Police. Brighton-based PC Alexander Walsh, 33, of St Michael’s Place, Brighton, admitted the charges at Portsmouth Crown Court earlier this month. Two counts of gross misconduct in respect of discreditable conduct were found against him during a hearing at Sussex Police headquarters last Friday. He was dismissed without notice, and is due to be sentenced on 12 October. He pleaded guilty to common assault and stalking without fear, alarm or distress on 5 September. Det Supt Steve Boniface, head of Sussex Police’s professional standards department, said: “This officer’s behaviour was a violation of the trust that the public put in the police to serve and protect them.”
A Sussex Police officer has been sacked after he was caught selling himself for sexual services while on sick leave. PC Daniel Moss, 39, based at Hastings, became under formal investigation on December 2 and was immediately suspended from duty. He was caught advertised himself online as a male prostitute and offered services to perform sexual acts for cash. A Sussex Police spokesman said this demonstrating a clear conflict in personal and professional interests. Moss had been on sick leave from September for a stress-related illness.
A FORMER police officer chatted online about trying to rape an 11-year-old girl. Sussex Police Detective Inspector Dominic O’Brien had already resigned from the force after he was accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to the 14-year-old daughter of a murder victim in 2006. But O’Brien started talking to someone he thought was the mother of an 11-year-old on an online chatroom. Lewes Crown Court was told yesterday that O’Brien, 52, of Rosemary Avenue, Steyning, was clearly aroused as he discussed his sexual desires towards the child.
A policeman who filmed himself performing sexual acts while in uniform and had dealings with sex workers has been jailed for 15 months. PC Luke Smith, 34, who was based at Hastings, pleaded guilty to two charges of misconduct in public office and one count of obtaining personal data. He was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court to 15 months in prison for each misconduct count, to run concurrently. Sussex Police said Smith was sacked after he admitted the offences.
A detective constable failed to properly investigate child sex abuse claims and was only found out when the matter came to light again a year later. Sussex Police officer Celia MacDonald decided no crime had been committed, did not record a crime or investigate further, the force said.
A gross misconduct panel ruled she would have been sacked if she had not retired just days before a hearing.
A former Sussex Police officer has been jailed after pleading guilty to making and distributing more than 50,000 indecent images of children. Philip Savidge, 26, of Alexandra Road, Burgess Hill, was an acting sergeant with Sussex Police at East Grinstead. He admitted 42 charges relating to the making and distribution of 54,323 images, which included 1,681 prohibited and extreme images. He was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court to 27 months’ imprisonment. Savidge was served with a Sexual Offence Prevention Order designed to restrict his access to and use of computer equipment. The court also made a destruction order for the material and equipment seized by police.
A police officer with “an entrenched sexual addiction” has been jailed for possessing indecent images of children. Martin Harris took advantage of his work with victims of sex offences, even downloading childhood photos of a rape victim, Hove Crown Court heard. Harris, 37, of Saltdean, Sussex, who admitted possessing and making indecent images and misconduct in public office, was jailed for two years. Judge Christine Henson said his actions were a “gross breach of trust”. Harris, a police constable, who joined Sussex Police in 2002, volunteered as a sexual offences liaison officer for 10 years before applying for the post in the safeguarding investigation unit in Brighton.
dismissed after being found guilty of gross misconduct. Former Chief Inspector Rob Leet and Sgt Sarah Porter were found to have conducted their relationship while at work and misused Sussex Police systems to arrange their liaisons.
Mr Leet, 44, was also found to have taken advantage of a domestic abuse victim by having a sexual relationship with her, also while on duty.
A senior police officer who contacted prostitutes while on duty has been sacked following a misconduct hearing. Inspector Lee Lyons, of Sussex Police, arranged a location and fee for one woman, “Natalie’s”, services for after his shift ended. He also used his personal phone at work to make 23 calls to 11 prostitutes in an hour on 23 July. Mr Lyons, accepted all 21 allegations against him, the disciplinary hearing was told. He did not attend the seven-minute hearing in front of Chief Constable Giles York at Sussex Police HQ in Lewes. Mr Lyons, 40, who was based in Hastings, was a critical incident inspector at the time of making the calls and text messages on his police BlackBerry.
FORMER Sussex officer Trevor Godfrey committed misconduct over his involvement in a stalking case which saw a 19-year-old brutally murdered by her ex-boyfriend, a panel has found. Now-retired Godfrey had told a misconduct hearing Shana Grice had initially lied about being in a secret relationship with older colleague Michael Lane as a “smokescreen” so her boyfriend Ashley Cooke did not find out. The former Sussex Police officer denied he had applied a stereotype that two people in a relationship cannot be the subject of abuse from one another.
A HIGH-RANKING police officer has been sacked from the force for having sex with women while on duty. Inspector Tony Lumb formed inappropriate relationships with two women, including a victim of a disability hate crime in Brighton. At a disciplinary hearing yesterday his 27-year career with Sussex Police was brought to an end after a panel ruled his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct. It was revealed that the force had investigated him over accusations he had made visits to women who he had previously met as part of his public duties.
A FEMALE police sergeant was sacked from the force for having sex with a married inspector colleague. Sarah Porter was two ranks below Rob Leet when they conducted a relationship while at work and misused Sussex Police systems to arrange their meetings.
A police officer has been sacked without notice after selling himself for sex while on sick leave. Det Con Richard Holder of Sussex Police resigned before his dismissal at a disciplinary hearing on Monday. Ch Con Giles York told the hearing at force headquarters in Lewes that Holder advertised on the AdultWork.com website. The Police Federation said Holder admitted all of the allegations and had apologised for his lack of judgement. He is the second Sussex Police officer to have been caught advertising his services as a prostitute in less than two years. In December 2016, Hastings-based police constable Daniel Moss was dismissed after advertising himself as a male prostitute. Last year it also emerged Insp Tony Lumb of Sussex Police could face criminal charges over claims he had sex with women he met while on duty.
Daniel Barnes, 40, accessed ‘vile’ images of children while he worked as a police officer with Sussex Police, a court heard today. The images were found when police raided an address in Bognor in 2017.
The parents of murdered 19 year old Shana Grice, have condemn Sussex police officer’s hearing as a ‘sham’
‘We can barely believe what we have witnessed these past two days. The panel allowed a wholesale character assassination of our daughter,’ say parents.
Effectively murdered by Sussex police themselves, Shana Grice was fined by Sussex police and issued a fixed penalty notice, for reporting harassment and stalking by her ex boyfriend, Michael Lane.
Reported in the Independent newspaper and across the national tabloids, current affairs programs and late night radio chat shows, Shana Grice, 19, reported co-worker Michael Lane to Sussex police five times in six months, but was fined £90 for wasting police time before she was killed later that year.
Sharon Grice and Richard Green, parents of a Shana Grice, have condemned a Sussex police disciplinary hearing against the police officer involved as a “sham”.
Trevor Godfrey, who retired from Sussex Police in 2017 after 29 years, was found to have committed misconduct, but found not guilty of gross misconduct, allowing him to keep his pension.
He was told his actions did not amount to gross misconduct despite being serious at a hearing in Lewes – meaning he would not have been fired even if he were still working.
Shana Grice, 19, reported co-worker Michael Lane to police five times in six months, but was fined £90 for wasting police time before she was killed later that year.
Lane slit Grice’s throat before trying to burn her body at her Brighton home in August 2016. He was jailed for life for murder and imprisoned for a minimum of 25 years.
He pursued Shana Grice by fitting a tracker to her car, stole a house key to sneak into her room while she slept and loitered outside her home. It later emerged 13 other women had reported Lane to police for stalking.
Shana Grice was a real victim of stalking and harassment
Her parents, hit out at both the hearing and the decision to give Mr Godfrey the lesser disciplinary offence.
“We can barely believe what we have witnessed these past two days. The panel allowed a wholesale character assassination of our daughter, who is obviously not here to defend herself,” they said.
“Godfrey’s testimony only proved his discriminatory attitude, even accusing Shana of coercing Lane. We can barely believe what we have heard. The misconduct charge is a joke and the hearing a sham. Had Godfrey not retired, he would be allowed to carry on serving as a police officer.
“What message does this give to other officers? Even more importantly, what message does it send to victims? We are disgusted and feel thoroughly let down by the process. There is no justice.”
Shana Grice was fined for wasting officers’ time after it emerged she initially failed to disclose the pair had previously been in a relationship. The case was closed before her appeals for help were properly investigated.
A report commissioned after the teenager died found stalking and harassment offences were not being properly investigated by Sussex Police.
The hearing was told how Mr Godfrey was a police constable tasked with investigating an allegation of common assault on 25 March 2016 after Grice claimed Lane chased and made physical contact with her while taking her phone from her ear.
During an interview, Shana Grice made a number of other allegations against Lane, including that he had sent her unsolicited flowers and had made numerous attempts to contact her.
Stalker Lane was arrested and told Mr Godfrey the pair were in a relationship and provided details of mobile phone messages to back up his story.
Shana Grice later admitted the pair were having an affair and during a phone call lasting less than a minute and a half, Mr Godfrey told a frightened and scared Shana Grice, she would be fined for wasting police time over the harassment allegations – a decision ratified by police bosses.
A Decision Ratified by Police Bosses
Mr Godfrey stood by the decision when giving evidence to the misconduct panel. He told the hearing: “Absolutely, she did waste my time. I arrested someone as a result of her evidence on a false allegation. She had committed a criminal offence.”
He added: “She [Grice] lied to police three times. It was only right I advised her she cannot keep lying in police statements and getting people arrested for it.”
He said his colleague took the decision to give Shana Grice a £90 fine.
“His decision, which I don’t disagree with, was that she should not be able to get away with making false statements,” he said.
James Berry, presenting the case against Mr Godfrey, accused him of applying an inaccurate stereotype that a woman could not be at risk from a man with she was in a relationship with.
“I don’t have those views … There was no history of violence between them, there was no evidence of violence, or risk, at that time,” Mr Godfrey replied.
Mr Berry said the former Sussex Police constable “did not show the expected level of diligence” when dealing with Grice’s allegation against Lane. He said there was a “serious failing” in Mr Godfrey not filling out a risk assessment form following this incident.
“Mr Godfrey’s handling of this case did not represent the impartiality expected of a police officer,” he added.
Panel chairman Victoria Goodfellow said: “Whilst these are clearly serious matters, they are not so serious as to amount to gross misconduct. We do not in any way attribute any blame or responsibility to Shana Grice for any action.”
But the panel nevertheless found Mr Godfrey failed to adequately investigate Grice’s allegations of harassment and stalking, as well as failing to treat her as a victim.
Mr Godfrey declined to comment as he left the hearing on Tuesday evening.
Sarah Green, of the Independent Office for Police Conduct, said: “Those close to Shana have testified that his actions affected her confidence in the police and may have prevented her from reporting Lane’s continued harassment.”
I could have, at best won the Brighton Kemptown 2015 General Election and at worse, enabled Labour’s candidate Nancy Platts to win the 2015 Brighton Kemptown election.
Either way, Lloyd Russell-Moyle wouldn’t be Brighton Kemptown MP today if my 2015 election campaign wasn’t sabotaged by thugs, working in league with Sussex Police.
Allow me to explain:
I got 69 votes on Independence Day – 7th of May 2015. That’s 69 votes, achieved without any leaflets being sent out to the 90,000 constituents in Brighton Kemptown.
That’s 69 votes without knocking on any doors, without being invited to any Argus Newspaper hustings and without any publicity by the Argus Newspaper.
I was the invisible candidate in the Brighton Kemptown 2015 General election, but yet I still got 69 votes.
Now just imagine how many votes I would have got if one of my leaflets was posted through 90,000 doors across Mouslecoomb, Bevendean, Kemptown, Saltdean and Peacehaven?
How many votes would I have got if I was given the same level of publicity that the Argus newspaper gave the other candidates?
How many votes would I have got if I was allowed to participate in the Argus sponsored Hustings, which all the other candidates were invited to participate in?
How many votes would I have got if my campaign office wasn’t attacked on the 15 January 2015?
How many votes would I have got if my election office wasn’t visited on a daily basis by the thugs who attacked us on the 15 January 2015?
The answer would be more than 690 votes; which just so happened to be the number of votes, Simon Kirby MP got more than Nancy Platts.
If my election office wasn’t sabotaged by thugs in association with Sussex police on the 15 January 2015, at best I could have won the election and at worse, Nancy Platts would have won the election.
Nancy Platts would have won the election and would have ran again in 2017, following Theresa may’s disastrous decision to call a snap general election.
Lloyd Russell-Moyle would never have been MP for Brighton Kemptown.
In fact it would be fair to say that Nancy Platts would have won the 2017 Brighton Kemptown election, without any collusion by the Green Party and the UKIP Party, to meddle in Democracy.
Celebrating 50 years of Sussex Police, lets take a look back at their Chief Constables and their extraordinary stories.

Henry Soloman
While in 1968, Brighton police amalgamated with East Sussex Constabulary, West Sussex Constabulary, Hastings and Eastbourne Constabularies, to form the Sussex Police Constabulary we know today; their very first Chief Constable, a certain Henry Soloman, maintains the privileged position as being the only serving Chief Constable in British history to be murdered by a prisoner.
Regarded as a extremely gifted man; and well respected to have earned the position of Chief Constable in light of his Jewish background; (which back in the mid-19th century was more of a hindrance rather than a positive); Henry Soloman was murdered by a 23 year old man called John Lawrence.
John Lawrence was a petty crook who familiarized himself with the underbelly of Brighton’s life, rubbing shoulders with a thieves and living off the proceeds of a well known Brighton prostitute called Hastings Bet.
The events which lead to Soloman’s murder kicked off with the arrest of Lawrence for stealing a carpet from a shop in St James Street, with the intention of selling it on to secure the funds for a drink down the pub.
The story goes that the night before, Lawrence and his friends had been out drinking and the following morning needed a drink, hence the robbery.
Lawrence was arrested and brought to Brighton’s police station to be interviewed by Soloman himself. It was whilst waiting for the appropriate witness to arrive and identify him, Lawrence was told to sit in a chair by the fire.
Believing Lawrence to be of no discernable threat, Soloman walked past Lawrence, who unexpectedly reached out for a poker, resting beside a nearby fireplace, and struck Solomon across the back of the head.
Solomon fell to the floor with a fractured skull from which he was never to recover. No reason for Lawrence’s action was ever established and ironically the witness to his earlier crime failed to identify him.
With genuine and sincere grief over his death, huge crowds turned out for Henry’s funeral. Testimony to Soloman’s popularity, a public collection around town raised a whopping £500. Even Queen Victoria donated £50, as did the Duke of Richmond who donated £30 and the local Jewish community £52.
Ultimately a little over £1,000 was raised for his wife and children, and Soloman was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Ditchling Road.
Lawrence was tried at Lewes, found guilty and executed in Horsham prison all within three weeks. His trial barely took three hours and the jury only twelve minutes to find him guilty. Around a couple of thousand people watched his hanging and he was buried within the prison grounds.
As the last person to be executed at the Horsham prison, Lawrence became a bit of a celebrity, so they dug him up and put his body on display in the stable of the nearby Queens Head and charged punters 2d to view him.
As such, Henry Soloman is best remembered for having the dubious distinction of being the only Chief Constable to be killed whilst in office in 1844.
Now I bet you never knew that!
Thomas Williams – 1968-1972
And now on-wards to the Chief Constables (CC) of Sussex police since 1968; kicking off with Thomas Williams, Chief Constable from 1968, until his death in 1972.
Sadly history hasn’t recorded the exploits of Thomas Williams, which means we move swiftly onto George Terry, Sussex CC from 1973 to 1983.
George Terry – 1973-1983
With a claim to fame as being one of the youngest CC in English history, George Terry was first CC of Pembrokeshire Police in 1958, at the age of 35, before going onto be CC of East Sussex, Lincolnshire and ultimately Sussex CC in 1973.
Jointly with his successor Roger Birch, Terry served 10 years as CC from 1973 to 1983, and was most memorably remembered for implementing a range of modernizing reforms, including:
⦁ Improving communication systems
⦁ Introducing motor scooters for women police officers
⦁ Introducing reflective strips on the side of police cars
⦁ Introduce more comfortable uniforms for women officers
⦁ Opening a computerized command centre
⦁ Reforming the command structure
An expert on traffic management and Chairman of the Traffic Committee (1976–79), Terry was also President of the Association of Chief Police Officers for the year 1980–81.
As with CC’s yet to come, Terry courted controversy, when as chairman of Polygraph Security Services, the British company offering lie detector tests, he famously refused to submit a list of his clients to the House of Commons Employment Select Committee, who had asked him to submit a list of clients to them for investigation.
Citing privacy concerns, Terry was in danger of being reported to the Commons for contempt if he continued to refuse, but resigned from the post in July 1984 to avert such action ever happening.
In 1967, Terry was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal (QPM). Many Sussex CC’s would also be awarded the QPM; and he was further decorated by Queen Elizabeth II, with his appointment as Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1976 and knighthood in 1982.
Terry died on 18 August 1995, and was recorded by the Telegraph newspaper as, “one of the most respected policemen of his generation … a tall, handsome man of enormous vitality, he rejuvenated each command with ruthless perfectionism, and won a reputation as an outstanding innovator”.
After which we move swiftly onto Roger Birch.
Roger Birch – 1983-1993
Roger Birch
After only a year in his post, Roger Birch was the CC responsible for managing the aftermath of the 1984 IRA bombing of Brighton’s Grand Hotel, which of course you will know, killed five people, injured dozens more and nearly killed the then Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher.
A huge challenge for any CC, Birch rose to the task of coordinating a huge police and emergency service operation, taking charge of an investigation which shocked the world.
Tasked with keeping the conference going and the countries reputation intact, Birch, who would later become Sir Roger Birch, led a minutely detailed and intensive investigation into the murder and mayhem caused by the bombing, which would eventually lead to the conviction of Provisional IRA activist Patrick Magee.
Paul Whitehouse
Paul Whitehouse – 1993-2001
Paul Whitehouse hit the headlines in 2001 following his resignation from his post, following the fatal shooting of James Ashley, 39, an unarmed man, who laid naked in his bed with his girlfriend, when he was shot and killed.
The then Home Secretary in Tony Blair’s government, David Blunkett, put pressure on Whitehouse to resign. He effectively invited the now defunct Sussex Police Authority, to dismiss Whitehouse if it wanted to restore public confidence in the county’s police force.
Retiring on a full pension; (a common trend among police officers who found themselves facing disciplinary action), Whitehouse maintained he had done nothing wrong, and that his police officers acting professionally, so much so that he promoted the two police officers after the event.
He said at the time, “I have done nothing wrong. I have behaved to the highest standards of integrity that I expect all my officers to have.”
James Ashley
Ashley was shot by a member of PC Chris Sherwood, a member of Sussex police Special Operations Unit, when it raided a flat in St Leonards, Hastings, in January 1998. Officers had been told that two men, probably armed, were in the flat with a large quantity of drugs.
Ashley, who had a conviction for manslaughter, was in bed with his girlfriend when the police broke in. He was shot when he apparently went to turn on a light.
PC Sherwood would later be acquitted of murder and manslaughter at the Old Bailey. Charges of criminal misconduct against four senior officers involved in planning the raid were also dropped.
The final straw appears to be Whitehouse’s subsequent decision to go ahead with the promotion of two of the officers and backdate their pay increases precipitated the events that led to his resignation. The move angered members of the police authority, who were not consulted. One source said it was the “final straw”.
Clearly defiant and insistent that he had done nothing wrong, Whitehouse said, “My integrity is my most important possession and to hear it called into question both hurts and angers me. I shall now carefully consider what action to take in respect of the scurrilous accusations that have been made against me.”
He questioned Mr Blunkett’s role and said, “politicians should avoid looking for scapegoats when faced with the consequences of fighting crime.”
“I hope he realizes that if he wants us to be firm in our fight against drugs then officers will have to make decisions that may have unfortunate consequences. It is essential in these circumstances that these officers are supported, providing they have acted with integrity themselves.”
It’s a shame that Whitehouse’s time in office ended in such disgrace, though allegations of cover-up and misconduct were also levelled against him and Sussex police, following the murder of 19 year old Katrina Taylor in 1996, and accused of ignoring corruption in Wealden District Council.
To learn more about Katrina Taylor and the subsequent murder cover up, I would highly recommend you check out the following blogs published by ‘Taylor Investigations.‘
Considered by many as the best CC Sussex Police has ever had, Kenneth (Ken) Lloyd Jones, was the man left responsible for sorting out the mess left by his predecessor, Mr Whitehouse.
Awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in 2000 and knighted in 2009, Sir Ken Lloyd Jones, first found leadership as the Deputy Commissioner of Victoria Police in Australia.
Coming to the UK, he served in a number of cities including Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster gaining experience with community beat duties, specialist detective work and the use of firearms.
Gaining a reputation as an ‘honest cop,’ he gained further experience abroad working as an anti corruption investigator in Hong Kong and as an election monitor in Zimbabwe.
Sir Ken also served in Africa (Zimbabwe-Rhodesia), the United States (as a Fulbright Scholar at UCLA in 1996) and Hong Kong (in the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC)). He was appointed Assistant Chief Constable of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary in 1997 and ultimately become Sussex CC in 2001.
Though even an honest cop isn’t immune from controversy and scandal. After leaving Sussex Police in 2006, Sir Ken would later go back to Australia and serve in the Victoria Police Force, where he became the subject of death threats.
This signaled the start of the complicated relationship at the top of Victoria Police concerning the integrity of the presentation of crime statistics to the public.
An investigation by the Office of Police Integrity in Victoria police, would later conclude that Sir Ken did not engage in serious misconduct by leaking or facilitating leaking to the media of confidential police information, and was subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing during his time at Victoria Police Force.
Joseph Edwards – 2006-2007
Joseph Edwards
Joseph Edwards joined Sussex Police in 2002 as deputy chief constable and took on the top job in February 2006.
The third Sussex CC to be awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in the New Year Honours List, Edwards was praised by Peter Jones, the Chairman of the now defunct Sussex Police Authority, as responsible for increasing public confidence in Sussex police to record levels.
Jones is quoted to have said, “Joe will be a hard act to follow and we are all very sorry to see him go.”
He joined Hampshire Constabulary as a PC in 1980, where he rose through the ranks to Chief Superintendent. He was divisional commander at Havant from 1994 to 1997.
He moved to Essex on promotion to Assistant Chief Constable in 1999, where he was involved in two high-profile policing operations – the Korean air crash of 1999 and a hijacking in 2000.
Lasting as the CC for only a year, we move swiftly onto Martin Richards; also a recipient of the Queen’s Medal.
Martin Richards – 2008-2014
Martin Richards
Possibly the most controversial CC Sussex police has ever had, Martin Richards would later go onto retire early, having just had his contract extended by a year.
According to Wikipedia, Richards joined Warwickshire Police in 1982, where he was stationed across a range of geographical areas in numerous roles. His command positions included District Commander at Nuneaton, Head of Communications, Performance Review Manager, and a short period as Head of CID. He also served for two years in National Police Training as Head of Recruit Training Center at Ryton-on-Dunsmore.
After obtaining his Criminology degree, Richards was promoted to Assistant Chief Constable at Avon and Somerset Constabulary in 1998. He was promoted to Deputy Chief Constable in 2002.
Richards was appointed Chief Constable of the Wiltshire Police in September 2004. While he was Chief Constable, he oversaw “Optimus”, a 12-month program of modernization and reform within the Force, as well as a collaborative project involving all five Forces within the South West region.
CC of Sussex police from 2008 to 2014, it was revealed via a Freedom of Information request that in the last year of his office, he was investigated for misconduct for a total of 14 times. All 14 cases were found to ‘unsubstantiated’ and no action was taken.
Richards was also investigated by the then Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) for using undue influence regarding an operational policing issue.
He was later found to have no case to answer, after an anonymous allegation was made against him following a referral from the now defunct, Sussex Police Authority.
Richards appeared to have as many detractors as he had supporters. For example, according to ‘The Captain Swing Journal‘ he was “Overpaid and overdue for the chop.”
Captain Swing continues, “He’s a man that has not done a day’s proper policing work in his whole career. He started as a graduate recruit and went straight into senior positions with Warwickshire Police , within twelve years he became CC of Wiltshire and lucky old Sussex was next in line for his common purpose improvement by destruction method of running a Police service.”
In the video below we hear from a popular blogger called ‘Sam’, who calls attention his connection with ‘Common Purpose‘, an otherwise inconspicuous organization who run courses which give people the skills, connections and inspiration to become better leaders both at work and in society.
Last but not least, the present CC of Sussex, the cracking fellow, Giles York.
Giles York – 2014 – Present
Giles York
A keen conker player and the fifth CC to be awarded the Queen’s Medal in her New Year’s Honour List, Giles York has recently hit the headlines following the drone fiasco of Christmas 2018, which brought Gatwick airport to standstill, leaving a whopping 140,000 holidaymakers inconvenienced across the busy Christmas period.
Accused of dodging the tough questions by the Daily Mail newspaper, York has been accused of ducking the press when his force is in trouble, but courting publicity for positive PR stories including police donations to charity, Brighton’s Gay Pride and sponsorship of a large statue of a cartoon dog in Brighton.
York was famously once heard saying, that while he is happy to reveal how much he earns as CC (£196,000 a year,) he isn’t prepared to reveal what he spends his money on.
Leaving many to speculate as to whether he has a secret hobby he doesn’t want anyone to know about, York is seen as a popular leader, well liked by his rank and file.
And so there you have it; a look back to the CC who have occupied the top seat at Sussex Police.
Celebrating 50 years of Sussex Police, we can only look on with enthusiasm and wonder, what the next 50 years will bring.
